Well, what's the saying? Unexpected comes often? Only too true for me if I look at the past year 2007! ;-)))) Also Jill was not planned, she too was a totally unexpected addition to my breeding program. :-)
In summer 2006 my friend Karin from Cosy Corner Maine Coon cattery travelled to Maine, USA, to bring home some farm cats (F1) that promised enough quality to contribute to a Foundation breeding program and become the source of a new bloodline. Not only did she document everything very well with photos but also had Donna Chase from Thunderpaws help her and approve the origin of these cats - both of huge importance for my breeding club and me myself to make shure not to bring in "fake foundations" that would not really be pure farmstock.
Karin tried to do all the work her own but realized quickly that starting 4 new bloodlines is by way too much for one breeder alone. I offered my help and was lucky enough to get trusted with Jill, all the other F1's are neutered by now.
Jill is not a very large girl but has some promising qualities! She has a very sweet temperament and loves to be carried around all day. Also she has a very nice chin and muzzle. Of course she is very far from the "usual" Maine Coon type but if she looked to much like a purebred Maine Coon I would question that she is really 100% new blood, which would defeat the purpose of Foundation breeding! ;-)
All the health- and genetests have given satisfying results so we are looking forward to Jill's first babies for us! :-) |
