Key West - or Rasputin as I call him - was my first purebred cat ever and the begin of my loveaffair with the Maine Coon breed.

A friend of mine wanted to buy a Maine Coon boy. I had never heard of that breed before but started to get curious and tried to help her a bit. So I spent long nights searching the internet - and suddenly there he was ... MY boy :-)

I contacted his breeder, Francesca Gagern from Tuscaloosa Cattery in Vienna. She was very friendly and invited me for a visit. I learnt that Fuzzy - which was his nickname in those days - was a single born kitten and had to be bottlefed. So his breeder had bonded very strong with him and really wanted a very special home for him.

Fran explained me also lots of things I would have to consider before buying a purebred cat. Because I had only dealt with rescues and strays this was a totally new world for me. Especially that contract-stuff! And finally she decided that the special place for her little bottle-baby was to live with me!

Thank you Fran - not only for entrusting me with your little singleton but also for your friendship, patience and of course for encouraging me to show Rasputin. Oh yes, meanwhile I called him Rasputin for his serious face expression and long whiskers, Fuzzy really was not suitable any longer! ;-))
In the meantime he has become a very beautiful grown-up male. Although he is not the biggest MC ever and has to compete against some really huge guys in Alter Class, he does quite well at shows. It took him only two shows to grand in TICA and he has never missed to make his point in traditional shows yet.

Apart from his size he displays the special look and character I like best in a showlines-Maine Coon.

Rasputin has an open, very friendly expression in his face with nice muzzle, chin, profile and earsize without beeing too extreme. He has good boning and an harmonic appearance.

He is very gentle, gives headbutts and purrs nearly constantly. Sometimes he talks with his fine voice, it sounds more like "tschirp, tschirp" than like a miau!

Rasputins coat shows a very warm brown colour with great pattern while still having enormous lots of fur. It seems as if he has decided he needs this the most urgent in hot summer and so he is really suffering from that sometimes. Believe me: this is all fur and not fat you see on him in this picture!!!
He is really a cutie with an loving purrsonality. And so he is Clarissa's biggest darling!!! She loves him so dearly and unconditionally although it is impossible that this loveaffair will ever be fulfilled! Of course Rasputin is already neutered due to the Pet-Contract I signed!
Rasputin is also a very social cat. He loves all the other cats, kittens and visitors.

Although he was a real coward in the beginning when he first was allowed to go outside (he had never seen bees and trees before) he now loves beeing in our safe garden so much and is hard to convince that it is time to come back in again!! Only a fresh bowl of food calls him in easily!!! ;-)
