What you should know
before you apply for a kitten ...
If you purchase a kitten from a serious and concerned breeder you will get a healthy pet, very well socialized and with a loving character. The breeder had to invest a lot of love, time and money to get cats like this.

I am very attached to all my cats and kittens and so I try with all my heart to give them both a good start into life and find the perfect "parents" for them who will give them all their love and a great lifelong home. To be able to figure out who would fit into that picture I will have to ask many questions - sometimes a real nuissance. ;-) Moreover every cat is leaving my house only with a strict contract. So the new owners are covenanted to maintain good care and security for their new pet.

Please be aware that I am only a small cattery with a few cats and also only a few litters per year. This gives me enough time for all of the cats and the kittens and so I can provide proper care and lots of attention for each of them.

If you would like to know which litters we have planned for this year please visit the plans-page "How it continues".

While we have kitten available I will publish pictures and a weight table on the kittensite beginning from day one on a weekly base, so you can see all the kittens grow and watch their developement. Of course you are also very welcome to visit your "special" kitten as often as possible until it is ready to go home with you. *sigh* This will make the time of waiting a bit shorter for you but also might help you with the decision which kitten will be a good match for you. But please don't forget to give me a personal call before your visit so that we can make an appointment.

Visits generally are only possible after the kittens are at least 5 weeks old. You will not be allowed to touch the kittens by that early time because their immunity system is still not fully developed, but you can watch them play and get to know the parents and the other cats. :-)) For cuddling your darling you will have to wait until the kittens have got their first vaccinations.

It should be self-evident that you wear clean, fresh clothes when you come for a visit, and also that you are not "hopping" directly from one breeder to the next when you try to find a kitten. Please, visit only one breeder a day. Every breeder will be really thankful about your considerateness. Please understand that every cattery has it's own - for them completely normal and healthy - bacterias. This does not do much harm to a grown-up cat but can be desastrous for kittens from another cattery because they have - as mentioned above - no fully developed immunity levels yet and are very susceptible to infections.

You are not discouraged by so many rules and restrictions because you understand it is only for the wellbeeing of the cat? Great, then I would be very happy to hear from you. :-) But how to appy for a kitten from my breeding?

Well, prinzipially very simple: You write an email to me or just call me ( until about 10 p.m.). Then we fix an appointment date, so that you can meet me and the cats and where you also eventually tell which of the kittens would be your favorite choice. Then you have time to think about it. At the time when you have definitely decided for "your" special kitten you notify me about your decision. You pay a deposit which garantees you that I will hold this special kitten for you - and me that you are seriously interested. Also you will get a copy of the purchase contract which simply regulates the rights and responsibilities of the buyer and the seller for the sake of the cat. This contract is binding upon both parties and has to be signed when the the kitten comes to you. :-)

To be able to maintain a senseful breeding program every breeder must keep a kitten occasionally or give it to a breeder friend. Of course only the best kitten shall go to a breeding program. This is not easy to find out and not possible in a very young kitten. So you will find occasionally the word "evaluation" with a kitten. This means I keep the kitten until 11 or 12 weeks under close supervision to rule out its breeding and/or show potential. An earlier decision will not be done from a considerate breeder. If the kitten does not develope that way it will become available again then. So please don't be repelled if you see this "evaluation" with all the boys of the litter - all of them except one will be looking for a nice and loving pethome later on for sure. So please don't hesitate to express your interest.

At the given time I will bring your kitten personally to your house, no matter how far you live from my home. For this I also don't accept the excuse that you live to far away from me for a single visit. What is expected from me I can also can expect of you. :-) So, if you want a kitty from me you must at least come once for a visit - willy-nilly. ;-)))

The kittens will be able to leave for their new homes with 15 - 16 weeks of age. By then they have got all their vaccinations, they are dewormed, and have passed a proper health-check. And they will be already pretty well socialized.

But don't forget -

it is in your hand that they stay that way!!!

A cat does not only need your love and care (which I assume as so self-evident that I think it does not have to be specially emphasized here) but also set limits - like very other living beeing in this world. It must be educated with a lot of empathy. You must be aware that you will have to spend a lot of time, patience and consequence are the key to success.

If you are only interested in buying a purebred-cat because you think it will never ever destroy anything or never do other nasty things you are definitely on the wrong track! ;-) But don't worry - I am trying my best to give the kittens a good start into life and will try to help and support you also later on with all your questions to my best knowledge.

Serious inquiries are very welcomed. Honestly said: I will prefer people that consider to have at least a second cat living with my kitty. From my personal experience this is the best for the cat - especially if you are not at home all day - and it really is not much more work or costs for you. Maine Coons are very social cats and love to have company. If you ever could observe the loving contact among each other you will agree with me. So especially when you are not at home all day you maybe should consider taking in a second cat for company.

As buying two purebred cats might be pretty expensive for most people I will of course also support you in finding a healthy rescue-cat for example. Occasionally you can also get former breeding cats that are neutered/spayed. These cats are up to date with their vaccinations, are tested for many diseases and will be available just for a small fee. It is not that breeders want to get rid of their inactive breeding stock but if a breeder would keep every former breeding cat they would be overcrowded soon which results in high stresslevels and more risk for contagous diseases. Moreover the life in a cattery is full of changes and bother. So many breeders wish that these very special cats shall have a wonderful and stressfree forever home with loving people. Please note that most of these cats require to get tested for genetic diseases up to an higher age to garantee for the health of my breeding program, so I will have to take them for their tests about every two years - at my own expenses of course.

Still interested in a cat? Then please feel free to contact me! :-)
